Ruins
In 1902, Mont Pelee erupted in a volcanic explosion that destroyed the town of Saint Pierre. While walking through downtown Saint Pierre, the city has mostly built itself back up in the past 115 years. However, parts of the city remain in burnt ruins as a reminder of the tragedy that killed 30,000 people and left 2 survivors.

Beach Town
Martinique's natural beauty is incredible. The city of Saint Pierre sits on the northern side of the island on the water, and my friend Katie and I ate a lunch of crepes and wine on the abandoned boardwalk. Not a soul in site, just the sun, the sea, and a reminder of Mont Pelee.
